Stop accusing people of voting against their interest
Leftists often get frustrated when their party loses, especially when it’s because of a lack of working class support. “How is it possible? We have the best policies for them!” While conservative parties often have policies that hurt the working class.
We expect the working class to vote according to their interest, but do we do the same? No, middle and upper-class leftists arguably vote against their interest when they vote to pay more taxes so that poor people can have it better. They vote that way because it fits to their values, even when it goes against their personal interest.
But from the working class we expect a cold calculation about which party’s policies is the best for their wallet. Even when that party’s values conflicts with their own.
People, no matter how poor or rich, vote according to their values, not their interest. If the left’s values center around offering charity to the deplorable working class, no wonder we lost their support.
